Rituals of Prom

Once a year the young Nacirema people create a day to dress unusually different for an entire night, they call this night Morp. Months before this special evening the girls go out with their mothers to find a unique, one-of-a-kind, extra bedazzled toga. After trying on a billion togas the girl will then choose the most appealing ensemble to her, that she would like to claim her own. To officially claim it she will take the toga to the front of the market, where they will go through oodles of paper to make sure noone at Noiram high school has the same one.
After her toga is confirmed the market lady will shout out an outrageous number and her mother will hand the lady a tiny plastic card. The card will be slidden through another tiny machine which will electronically give her many many shekels. The whole process seems like too much work for a toga she'll wear one time. To avoid a complexion as white as snow the girls will also invest in a ritual in which they spend numerous hours in a bed of lights, slowly darkening the color of their skin.
This whole event seems like it's more for the girls than the guys, but if it weren't for the boys, the remaking of ourselves would seem almost pointless. The boys have a big responsibility for this evening and that is to seek out a girl and ask her in the most creative and orginal way to spend the special night with him. If that doesnt happen, the girl has a magnificent toga without a night to spend it in.
On the day of morp the girls get up as soon as the box with numbers reads 7:00. She'll wake up with a warm purified waterfall, cleansing her hair and skin, before she is finished she'll take a tool made of up several different blades and gently drag it up her lower limbs several different times until all hair is removed. She will then apply a blue paste like substance to the tip of her tiny hair brush that she will then place into her mouth and rotate in a circular motions until completely clean. By mid-day the girls will travel through the village in wagon going from shop to shop. First they will stop at a shop that will fancy up their hair so it will last through all of the night. They will then go to a different shop where they will get their hands and feet pampered. Then they will travel again to yet another shop where they will find themselves having their faces colored and painted to perfection. Last but not least she'll return home where she will finish off her fabulous look by wrapping her toga around her. ! :)
